Our Commitment to Climate Action and Sustainability
At Wistaston Church Lane Academy, we believe that caring for our planet is a vital part of preparing our children for the future. We are proud to be taking meaningful steps toward becoming a more sustainable school, reducing our environmental impact, and inspiring our pupils to become responsible global citizens.
Our commitment to tackling climate change is embedded in our curriculum, our school culture, and our everyday practices. From reducing waste and conserving energy to promoting biodiversity and sustainable travel, we are working together—staff, pupils, families, and the wider community—to make a real difference.
We believe that lasting change happens when schools and families work together. Here are some ways you can support our efforts at home and in partnership with the school:
Support Climate Education
- Talk to your child about what they’re learning in school regarding climate change and sustainability.
- Encourage curiosity about green careers and environmental issues—especially during our Green Careers Week.
Reduce Food Waste
- Help your child understand the importance of reducing food waste at home.
- Support our “Meat-Free Mondays” by exploring vegetarian meals together.
Promote Sustainable Travel
- If possible, encourage walking, cycling, or car-sharing for the school run.
- Take advantage of our Bikeability training for Year 4 and 5 pupils.
Enhance Outdoor Learning
- Join us in maintaining our school’s biodiversity by supporting bird box projects or participating in gardening activities.
- Encourage your child to join our Climate and Sustainability after-school clubs.
Conserve Energy and Water
- Reinforce habits like turning off lights and appliances when not in use.
- Use reusable water bottles and talk about water conservation at home.
Minimise Waste
- Support our efforts to reduce paper use by embracing digital communication and resources.
- Encourage recycling and responsible waste disposal at home.
We’ve developed a comprehensive Climate Action Plan that outlines our goals, strategies, and progress. You can explore it here:
